INTRO
In an illustration course at UQAM, we were asked to create an illustration based on a familiar or familial saying. The goal was to explore how language and visual storytelling can intersect to convey personal or shared meaning.
MANDATE
The project required us to choose a well-known slogan or expression and translate it into a single, impactful illustration. After some initial difficulty settling on a phrase, I ultimately chose the expression "in a pickle", which was selected through a class vote and resonated with me personally.
RESULT
The final illustration captures the feeling of being “in a pickle” both literally and metaphorically. By using humor and a charming visual style, I was able to express a personal experience in a way that others could also connect with. The piece blends emotional honesty with visual playfulness, turning everyday stress into something creative and approachable.

PROCESS
Although the expression "in a pickle" is often used humorously, it also reflects how I frequently feel overwhelmed or stuck due to school, work, and personal pressures. I approached the illustration with a playful tone, turning a stressful concept into something more light-hearted and whimsical. The drawing process allowed me to reframe the emotion behind the saying into a visual metaphor that felt relatable yet fun.
